A KOSHER CHINESE MEAL

A rabbi was walking home from Temple when he saw one of his good friends, a pious and learned man, but one who would usually get the best of him in religious arguments.

The rabbi walked faster to could catch up to his friend when he was horrified to see him turn
into a Chinese restaurant.

Standing at the door, he observed his friend talking to a waiter and gesturing at a menu. A short time later, the waiter reappeared bearing a platter brimming with spare ribs, shrimp in lobster sauce, crab Rangoon and other treif
1 that the rabbi could not bear to think about it.

His friend rearranged the dishes to his satisfaction, and with great relish picked up the chopsticks and began to eat. The Rabbi, who could take it no longer, burst into the restaurant and blurted out uncontrollably, "Morris, what is this you are doing? With my own eyes I saw you come into this restaurant and order this filth; and now you are eating it in clear violation of kashruth
2 and with an enjoyment that is contrary to your pious reputation!"

"Rabbi," replied Morris calmly, "did you see me enter this restaurant?"

"Yes, I did!"

"Did you see me order this meal?"

"Yes!"

"Did you see the waiter bring me this food?"

"Yes!"

"And did you see me eat this food?"

"Yes, of course I did!"

"Then, Rabbi, I don't see the problem. The entire meal was done under rabbinical supervision!"
